Tokisaki Kurumi is a Spirit in the Date A Live universe. She is a girl with supernatural powers, able to manipulate time. For instance, her weapons can shoot bullets that alter the speed of her target or even herself. She is one of the main antagonists at the beginning of the story. However, here, she is wearing a kimono and does not seem too menacing. Well, she has her guns, just in case. She dislikes humans and likes cats a lot. By the way, we will soon confirm this passion with an element of her outfit.
This review will often be referring to Yatogami Tohka Finest Kimono because the two figures are made from Kadokawa and have a scale of 1/7. Tohka’s official photos included a shot with Kurumi. Tohka was released after Kurumi. They are meant to be displayed together, so comparing them is natural.
The base is a classic shiny black circle but fortunately it is decorated with flowers. I think textured bases are better but it can sometimes be too much. In this case, with a big kimono, Kurumi does not need a complicated base. \The flowers are beautiful and the design reminds me of Japanese lacquerware. However, I wonder why they are placed at that position. Indeed, some of them are covered by the kimono while a blank space remains. Centering the drawing would have been more coherent, I think. At least, Tohka base flowers have the same placement.
The finish is good, the figure is stable but the flowers are partly hidden. Strange. 6/10
To begin, I love the kimono! It is a type of clothes that I like very much to see. I like the position of the right arm with the musket just as the rotation of the head, slightly tilted. Nevertheless, I find the left arm position a little strange. Does Kurumi want to show something to her right? I would have preferred if she had aimed right in front of her, as if she threatened the viewer! Nonetheless, I love the very long sleeves! The curves soften the frozen state of the figure. The kimono has some folds but the pose seems nonetheless very static.
Looking at the figure from the side, we have the impression she is flat. Her arms and hair are placed in the same plane.
Nevertheless, I find that her hair is nicely done. In general, I like the strands of hair that are spread. Her hair is not very long but it is sufficient to remark the difference between the left and right size. This choice represents the hands of a clock!
One detail that I don’t like at all is her mouth. Maybe a mad smile would have been better? She seems to smile a little. Well, it is not impossible for her character. The smiling effect of Tohka is better I think. It is more visible, and her mouth is open wider. Kurumi’s eyes are downcast, so it gives a sad feeling.
A better placement of the left arm would have given a better grade than 8/10.
The painting is very good! The shading on the kimono is very nice and emphasizes the presence of the flowers. The kimono seems to be luxurious, with nice materials. It suits Kurumi very well, who is preoccupied by her appearance. By the way, the white flowers stand out next to the black hair.
About the hair, the tip is red, it is subtle but important to notice that the painter thought about that.
Then, let us continue the review by talking about the pistol. First of all, the first time I saw this figure, I didn’t understand the presence of the cat sign. Now that I know more about Kurumi (after I have played at Rinne Utopia), I know she loves animals and she wants to protect them, so it is not unnatural that she has a picture of a cat under her firearm. Her favorite animal is the cat and she likes caring for them. Two paws are painted next to the cat. It is very cute and it would have let us imagine Kurumi is a nice person if it would not have been placed on a gun.
Her rifle is decorated with flowers, the same that are present in her headband. The painting of the brown parts has no shade but the dark color makes this point less visible.
Lastly, her eyes are a very important part of her design. Indeed, her right eye is red and her left one is a yellow clock which represents her remaining time, it is her energy. When she uses her powers, the clock turns counterclockwise, when she absorbs the time of her enemies, the clock turns clockwise. The painting is excellent, the roman numerals are easily readable. Failing to make good eyes can ruin a figure, especially for Kurumi with her heterochromia.
With a painting design like that, I can only give a 10/10!
I found a very small defect: some excess glue remains between the black and gold part of the kimono, in the front. It is nearly impossible to see it in a photo, so it will not be illustrated here.
Nearly perfect, 9/10.
I paid €221.79 for Kurumi. It is a good price for a scale by Kadokawa. But paying more to have a textured base would not have been a problem for me.
The price is good for me, 10/10!
With her wider kimono, Kurumi stands out next to Tohka. She is a really good figure, but since I bought her I have acquired figures with more elaborated bases. Therefore, she seems to lack something. But she is correctly priced so she remains nonetheless in my favorite figures.
Kurumi wearing her kimono has a total grade of 8.6/10!
